What We Do

We Plant it Forward preserves and restores the natural environment of North Carolina for the benefit of future generations through hands-on activities, community engagement, and environmental education.

Tree planting

“Our goal is to plant native trees that will remain in the ground indefinitely.”

Are you looking to reforest a plot of land, plant trees in your neighborhood, school, or a local park?

Our goal is to native plant trees that will remain in the ground indefinitely. We work with your community to pull together a team of people from local schools, community groups, organizations, municipalities, and businesses to make your tree planting a success.

By using local resources and community members, we make tree planting affordable. We can provide planting planning, event day leadership, and post care guidance. We will tailor our services to meet your needs.

Tree giveaway

“We make it easy for anyone to plant their own trees to help combat climate change.”

Every year, we give out native North Carolina bare root tree seedlings. Along with the tree seedling, you will get information about the tree, including how to plant and care for it.

By giving away tree seedlings, we make it easy for anyone to plant their own trees to help combat climate change.

If you would like to partner with us and host a tree giveaway in your community, don’t hesitate to get in touch.

We are excited to partner with Leaf & Limb on Project Pando, a volunteer-operated native tree farm and Living Soil Tree Farm. We Plant it Forward schedules monthly volunteer opportunities to collect seeds.

This is a great project for families with school aged children, budding environmentalists, environmental science class K-12, nature-seekers, and anyone who wants to work to preserve and restore our natural environment.

If you would like to partner with us to collect native tree seeds in your community, please get in touch. We will provide instructions and guidance on how to collect and prepare tree seeds, as well as drop-off location in Raleigh NC.

Rain barrel workshops

“Participants make and take a rain barrel to start their own water conservation program.”

A few times a year, in Raleigh, North Carolina, we hold rain barrel-making workshops.

Participants make and take home a 55-gallon, fully functional rain barrel, with installation instructions and flexible downspout attachment to start their own water conservation program. We supply the barrels, parts, and all tools necessary to make the rain barrel and show you how.

If you would like to partner with us to hold a rain barrel workshop in your community, please contact us. Barrel delivery may limit our range of possible workshop locations in North Carolina, but we will do our best to work out the logistics with you.

We take a hands-on approach to teaching and learning. We like to get students, children and adults, out in nature.

We tailor our curriculum to meet your needs and interests. Some of our hands-on activities include tree planting, tree seed gathering, and acting out the life cycle of a tree.
